BELIEFS

Overcomer Covenant Church is a Christian church. We believe and preach the Bible, follow Jesus and worship God as ruler of our lives and the creator of the universe in which we live.

Statement of Faith

THE BIBLE
We believe the Bible to be the inspired and authoritative Word of God. It is relevant and applicable to people of every culture, age and era. (2 Timothy 3:16)

GOD
We believe there is only one true God. He is the eternal King, Creator and Redeemer of all that is. He is just, loving and full of truth. (Ephesians 4:16, 1 Corinthians 8:6; 1 Timothy 2:5)

HUMAN DESTINY
We believe God created humans to be in relationship with Him, both here on Earth and when we join Him in Heaven. (John 3:16; Genesis 1:27) When the first humans disobeyed God, physical and spiritual death came into the world and separated us from an intimate relationship with Him. Since that time, everything God has done has been designed to restore mankind’s relationship with Him. Jesus was the fulfillment of that plan. (Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:16; Colossians 1:19-21)

JESUS CHRIST
We believe Jesus is the Son of God who died for our sins, was resurrected, and is the mediator between God and people. Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived in perfect obedience to God, His Father, and voluntarily paid the price for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He was physically resurrected from the dead, ascended into heaven, and now lives in the presence of God. He is the perfect representation of God, His Father. The Bible says that all the fullness of the Godhead dwells in Jesus. (John 3:18; Colossians 1:19)

SALVATION
We believe we are saved from eternal punishment and given a regenerated spirit when we believe in Jesus Christ and submit our life and will to His authority. Jesus said that we must be “born again,” or born by the Spirit in order to see the Kingdom of Heaven. To be born of the Spirit, one must believe in their heart and confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord. (Romans 10:9,10)

THE CHRISTIAN LIFE
We believe that every believer is given power to live an overcoming life. Each person has been created with unique gifts and abilities and has been born in a particular time and place to fulfill a purpose on this Earth. As we honor God and live our lives according to His Word, and in His Spirit, we are transformed and enabled to fulfill this purpose. (Romans 8:37, 38; 1 Peter 4:10)

HOLY SPIRIT
We believe we are commanded to be filled with God’s Spirit. The power of His Holy Spirit fills all believers who ask God for it. The Holy Spirit enables believers to boldly declare their faith, to demonstrate the Kingdom of God through signs and wonders, and to live a victorious life. (Ephesians 5:18; Luke 11:13; Acts 1:8; John 14:12)

THE CHURCH
We believe that the church is more than a building; it is the body of Christian believers, worldwide. Christians should meet together regularly to worship as a group, to encourage one another, to receive teaching, and to pray for one another. We believe that the church’s primary purpose is to minister the love of Jesus to the world and to advance His Kingdom. (1 Corinthians 3:16, John 13:34)

WATER BAPTISM
We believe water baptism by immersion is an outward expression of one’s faith, a declaration of dying to one’s own will, and a commitment to living for Jesus Christ. We believe it is God’s will for every believer to be water baptized. (Romans 6:4; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38)

GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT
We believe that the gifts of the Spirit are intended to be in operation for the edification of believers and for a sign to unbelievers. These gifts include the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healings, the working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, different kinds of tongues, and interpretation of tongues.
(1 Corinthians 12:7-10; 1 Corinthians 14:22)
