Taking Care of Your Gift

Let’s talk ABOUT taking care of your gift

Teach us to number our days, so that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Psalms 90:12 NIV

God has been merciful to us, and we have experienced His grace to be blessed to see the beginnings of 2023 and to participate in the work God has called us to do. The chapter of 2022 has come to a close and another chapter in our lives is about to begin in God's glory. Another chance for repentance, reevaluation, new beginnings, and to live upright while serving God.

Our Body is the Temple of God

Do you not know that your body is a house of God where the Holy Spirit lives? God gave you His Holy Spirit. Now you belong to God. You do not belong to yourselves.

1 Corinthians 6:19 NIV

One of the best ways to show our gratitude to God is to take care of our bodies. We are to glorify God in our spirit and body, and 1 Corinthians 3: 16-17 supports this. We know God will take care of us. He has given us doctors with knowledge and technology, which is a true blessing. We should pray for God's guidance for those who help our health, as they do necessary procedures. As we know, God can and has been taking care of us. We also have to help ourselves, and how do we do this? There are three different parts of our lives to focus on, which can help us have healthier bodies.

  • Spiritual

  • Physical

  • Mental

We are holistic individuals. Each of these areas affects the other and contributes to a state of wellness. It is like a balance. When these three parts are at their best we are considered whole and can feel great. God cares for us and wants to help us in all these areas.

Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

2 John 1:2 NIV

Help to Direct us to do our part in caring for our temple

Here is an acronym that can help direct us to do our part in caring for our temple:

  • H - Hope - Having hope that we can do anything through God. Philippians 4:16 I can do all things, through Christ who strengthens me.

  • E - Eat & Exercise - Eat healthier foods, such as; fruits and veggies, and avoid more processed and salty foods. Exercising more daily, and weekly can start and build your endurance, do not forget to include weight resistance for stronger bones and weight management.

  • A - Ask-Apply-Aware - Ask and receive Matthew 7:7-8. Application of prescribed meds and health that need consistency and management. Be aware of your health numbers—know your blood pressure, cholesterol, and BMI, and take the necessary actions to improve the ones necessary to do so.

  • L - Love - Love God and your neighbor as yourself; love helps us learn to be peaceful with ourselves and others, as said in Matthew 5:44-46.

  • T - Tools - Tools and techniques for relaxation, positive thinking, and self-talk. It is imperative to learn more self-management tools, such as; imagery, visualization, meditation, prayer, journaling, and engaging in creative activities such as drawing, distractions, attention-refocusing, etc. You can lessen your symptoms by training your mind to focus on something other than that symptom and not dwell on them, but help your skills and work on a positive state of mind.

  • H - Healthy Heart - Heart disease is a serious matter! It can lead to a heart attack or a stroke if not managed well. Some residual effects can even be serious life-altering and irreversible damage and consequences.

Therefore, it is also of utmost importance that people take all of that has been mentioned in this blog and take the steps and actions to learn self-management skills to take better care of their temple and ease or avoid unnecessary illnesses. It also will help us live longer to do God’s ministry.
