Let's talk: Cancer Prevention

Cancer Prevenetion

Dear friend, I pray that you are prospering in every way and are in good health, just as your whole life is going well.”

3 John 1:2

DIET TIPS TO HELP WITH overall health to prevent cancer and other related illnesses

  • Avoid sugar, artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup, and MSG.

  • Avoid processed, and packaged foods, especially GMOs.

  • Drink water: The amount of water needed each day is half of your body weight in ounces.

  • Eat organic as much as possible. If organic is too expensive/unavailable: See the EWG’s link below on the dirty dozen/clean 15. This guides you to the types of fruits and vegetables that are acceptable if they are not organic (low-level pesticides).

  • Eat a balance of healthy protein, healthy carbs, fruit and vegetables, and good healthy fats.

  • Eat 3 healthy meals a day, and avoid snacking, avoid eating after dinner. This helps to avoid Leptin resistance. Read up on leptin resistance. It is key to maintaining weight long-term.

  • Get most of your carbohydrates from vegetables and fruits rather than grains.

  • Avoid chemicals in personal items like lotions, soaps, makeup, and cleaning products. Look for the scanning app on the EWG website.

  • Stay fit and trim by exercising (a 7-minute H.I.I.T routine is easy to start) in High-intensity Interval Training.

  • Supplements: Vitamin D/K-2, probiotics, antioxidants, and fish oil.

This list is not intended to make you feel overwhelmed. It is merely a guide to which you can start with one item and move forward from there.

Another consideration in choosing what’s your biblically healthy way of eating is understanding how your choices are going to impact your spirit. This comes down to getting clear on what the Holy Spirit is directing you to do, and noticing where you feel a gentle conviction to make a change.

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.”

1 Corinthians 10:31

Eating for comfort and celebration becomes a problem when you try to fill “the space that only God can satisfy” with food. God can use something as seemingly insignificant as the food that we eat daily to prune you, to chip away, to shape you to be more like Christ.

HEALTHY COOKWARE

When looking for pots and pans, look for cast iron, stainless steel, ceramic, glass, or even with copper lining. Avoid Non-stick pans, or pans with Teflon. Glass baking dishes are a great option. Avoid BPA plastic containers.

GOOD PROTEINS

Animal protein that is fed and raised properly. Pastured chickens/eggs, pastured pork, grass-fed beef, and wild-caught fish. Otherwise, plant protein is good, but avoid soy as it is mostly GMO and a hormone disruptor.

GOOD FATS

Avocado, coconut, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, ghee, grass-fed butter, grass-fed beef, pastured chicken, pastured eggs, pastured pork, raw cacao, raw dairy, raw nuts & seeds, olives wild-caught fish.

Avoid saturated fats, trans fats, hydrogenated oils, and vegetable oils that are GMO.

GOOD CARBOHYDRATES

Broccoli, carrots, sweet potato, beets, parsnips, brussels sprouts, zucchini, squash, pumpkin, chickpeas, bell peppers, and navy beans.

The image of saying “no” to our flesh can feel like an awful thing. But when we do so, it’s refreshing in our spirits, as they soar when we begin to put God before what our flesh desires.

This doesn’t mean making militant choices or cutting off all the tasty things from your life. Rather, it’s following the direction of the Holy Spirit.

“So then, dear friends, since we have these promises, let us cleanse ourselves from every impurity of the flesh and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.”

2 Corinthians 7:1
